Most of these pieces came about as a result of not being able to find what I want in the marketplace for the right price (read cheap here)… or refreshing older pieces of furniture into something I could tolerate. I really get a lot of satisfaction from trying to figure out a way to make something without actually having first hand knowledge of proper procedures. This is my version of “play”.
- I’ve always wanted to try my hand at mosaics so when the opportunity arose when the paint on my window box got damaged, I was there.
- Small tiles matching the decor were hammered, glued and grouted. I made it portable — if I ever move, it’s coming with me.
- I have a thing for circles rectangles and squares…I designed this wrought iron trellis and had it fabricated. The bird’s nest at the top is real but not used anymore.
- This was a cheap unfinished pine cabinet that I painted and distressed. I wove strips of metal together then antiqued them and inserted them into the doors.
- Twig Canopy Bed – I designed this twig canopy for my daughter’s “garden” bedroom. A friend who has some twig expertise helped me to source the alder, cut it and construct it. It required quite a few frosty winter weekends in my garage. Once finished I strung grape vines and party lanterns in the canopy — perfect for a 10-year-old.
- Fuzzy Headboard – 4 years later… and a young teen who now likes “modern”. I designed and constructed this headboard to fit the theme. It’s really comfy to lean up against.
